Homework and Absences
We hope you will enjoy sharing with your child this aspect of their learning. The homework your child is given is an important part of their education. It is also one of the ways parents can become aware of and involved in what happens at school, as all homework we set is reviewing what has been taught at school (or, for older children, preparing for a lesson to come.)
We ask that you check your child's homework notebook each night, supervise the homework set and sign the notebook when the work is completed. If any requirement is not clear, or if there are any difficulties, the teacher concerned may be consulted and the situation discussed. As a guideline, homework is expected to be completed for the following time periods Monday to Friday each night:

- Years 1 to 3: 20 to 30 minutes. For children completing the WORD programme, allow an additional 10 minutes
- Years 4 to 6: 30 to 45 minutes
- Years 7 to 8: 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
- Years 9 to 10: 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on topics and subjects
- Years 11 to 13: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on topics and subjects.

Students are expected to attain an attendance rate of 90% at school.
If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school via the SkoolLoop app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
You may also call or email the school at absences@manukauchristian.school.nz.
If a student does not arrive at school and the school receives no absence notification, the school will contact the parent or caregiver of that child to confirm their safety. Children may not leave the grounds during school hours without written permission from parents or a phone call to the office.
If your child has been vomiting or has had diarrhoea, please keep them home for 24 hours. We expect students to arrive at school on time. If your child is going to be late for school, please let the school know. Students need to sign in at the office if they are late or if they leave the school grounds during school hours. If you wish to collect your child early, please notify the office so they can be ready for you at pick-up time.
